About

Lynn Flewelling, M.A., LMFT, #101428

I grew up in Maine, married my high school sweetheart, had some great kids, lived all over the place, and settled in Southern California in 2006. Before I became a Marriage & Family Therapist, I worked for two decades as a novelist, freelance writer and editor, was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh into his Order of Interbeing and led a Buddhist sangha for 5 years, giving me a deep background in mindfulness and meditation. But I had long wanted to be a therapist and made the switch in my mid 50s. I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with Emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, one of the foremost schools based in Depth Psychology and the work of Carl Jung.

I’m joined in my work by my office dog, Toby, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Toby is just as sweet and gentle as he looks, and is at the beginning of training to be a Therapy Dog! I chose carefully when selecting a breed of dog for this work; the smallest of the Spaniels, Cavaliers are excellent companions and are often trained for Assistance and Therapy work. Fun Fact: genetically, Cavaliers share the least characteristics with their wolf forebears of any breed. However, if his presence would detract from your therapy experience, please let me know and I will arrange for him not to be in session. Cavaliers are not hypoallergenic.

My personal motto, which has taken me far, is “If not now, when?”
